What is a study?

Studies are conducted prior to any design or construction work to develop the best reasonable alternatives and eliminate any unrealistic alternatives. Once the appropriate funding has been designated, a project can move to the design and construction phases.

What is NEPA?

NEPA stands for the National Environmental Policy Act. Enacted in 1970, NEPA only applies to federal agencies and encourages decision-makers to make informed decisions, taking into consideration environmental effects, mission, cost, schedule, etc. It also requires federal agencies to involve the public in decision-making that could have significant environmental impacts.

How will reasonable alternatives be selected?

Reasonable alternatives will be selected using a number of different resources. Initially, the project team will research and gather data. Once base alternatives are established, the project team will present those alternatives to WAMPO and other project stakeholders, the Project Advisory Subcommittee and the general public for discussion and comment.
