Communities in the southern portion of the Wichita Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (WAMPO) region are interested in the potential to improve mobility and access to and within the region. Key issues, formulated by citizens during development of WAMPO's 2030 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP), include providing good roadway connections between cities and from cities to the highway system and reducing congestion on existing roadways.

The South Area Transportation Study (SATS) seeks to address the future mobility needs of the southern portion of the planning region. The goals of SATS will be accomplished by evaluating transportation improvements from a broad perspective to determine which strategy best addresses the specific transportation needs of the Study Area.

The Study Area includes parts of Sedgwick, Butler, and Sumner Counties; the cities of Wichita, Clearwater, Derby, Goddard, Cheney, Garden Plain, Andover, Haysville, Rose Hill, and Mulvane, along with all of the towns located within the study area.
